SHAN BIRDTAIL

Shan L. Birdtail is a Colville Tribal Descendant and a Senior at Lake Roosevelt High School in Coulee Dam, WA. Shan has qualified to participate in the Washington State Cross Country Competition in Pasco, WA, November 3, 2007. Shan is 16 years old and has been running with the Lake Roosevelt H.S. Cross Country team since he was a freshman. He is Captain of the Cross Country team. Shan has been working really hard to get to where he is and has had to overcome many hardships in that time. He resides with his grandmother Denise Covington, who has raised him all his life. Shan's parents are (Enrolled Members) Loretta "Pj" Covington and Sonny Birdtail.Shan is 2nd out of 6 siblings, Stoney Covington (deceased), Charissa Birdtail, Nicole Birdtail, Jessica Birdtail, Morgan Covington, and Mitch Pakootas Jr. Shan will be the only one representing Lake Roosevelt and the Colville Tribes, as he is the only individual on the team to qualify for state competition. Shan will also be competing his final year in wrestling as well, when the season starts.
