Gear Requirements

Participants must provide their own equipment unless otherwise indicated. Check the official race web-site for a list of vendors who sell or rent equipment. 

Racers are responsible for the quality of all their gear. Bike helmets and all rappel gear will be inspected at race check in.


For each race leg participants must
have the following equipment:


Run:
  • Map (provided at race check in)

Bike:

  • Helmet (ANSI certified)
  • Bike

Paddling:

  • USCG approved Personal Floatation Device (must be worn in boat at all times)
  • Boat w/ paddles (kayak for soloists, canoe for teams and relay)
  • Painters (bow and stern lines)
  • Bailer (must be tied into boat)
  • Signaling Device (whistle or air-horn)
  • Plastic bag for gear at boat take out (provided at race check in)

Rappel/Trek:

  • Map (provided at race check in)
  • Harness (UIAA or CE approved)
  • Helmet (UIAA or CE approved)
  • Descending device (figure-8, sticht plate, ATC, etc.) (UIAA or CE approved)
  • Locking carabiner (UIAA or CE approved)
  • Compass
  • Signaling device (whistle or air-horn)

Suggested items:

  • Water bottles (water for refilling available at transition areas)
  • Snacks/Energy bars (these are not provided by race)
  • Back Pack (for carrying rappel gear during the trek)
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Bike tools/ spare tube
  • Throw bag for boat
  • Extra paddle
  • Extra clothes (rain gear, fleece, etc.)
  • Special medical needs (ana-kit for bee stings, insulin, etc.)
