Race Rules

Eligibility and Team members:
- All racers must be at least 16 years of age on the day of the race.
- Solo entrants must provide a support person.
- 3 person co-ed teams must have at least one female.
- 3 person co-ed teams must finish each leg of the race together.
- 3 person co-ed teams must provide a support person.
- Co-ed relay teams must consist of 2-6 participants.
- Co-ed relay teams must have at least one female.
- Co-ed relay teams must have at least one female on the paddling and the rappel/trekking.
- Co-ed relay teams must finish the paddle and rappel/trek sections as a pair.
- Co-ed relay teams may only have one racer for the run, road bike, and
mountain bike sections.
- Co-ed relay teams may act as their own support crew or provide a separate support person.
- Co-ed relay teams must
meet the total age (Minimum 175) of all legs.
Timing, Transition, Course:
- Please respect the environment. Pack it in, pack it out (this includes energy bar wrappers!). Tread lightly- stay on the designated course where applicable. You will be traveling through wildlife habitat, private property, and Tribal public lands- please be courteous.
- Times will be given for each leg of the race (transition times will be included).
- Soloists and teams must complete the entire course to receive an official finish time.
- No electronic equipment other than watches and heart rate monitors.
- Only racers, designated support persons, and race officials may be in the transition areas.
- Racers and support persons must have their race numbers visible at all times.
- Support persons may only park in the designated areas near each transition area.
- Support persons may collect their racers gear as soon as the racer(s) depart for the next leg (see paddling section for exception).
- No outside assistance on the course.
Run:
- Runners may not run on or cross any paved roads.
- Portions of the run course will be flagged- follow flagging where applicable.
- Runners must stay out of the designated (flagged) marsh areas due to loon habitat.
Paddle:
- PFD's must be worn while in boat.
- Soloists may use kayaks.
- 3 person co-ed teams will all be in one canoe.
- Both paddlers on co-ed relay teams will be in one canoe.
- Use of sails or other wind aids is prohibited.
- Racers must portage their boat from the take out to the boat storage area (about 200
yds.).
- Gear should be clearly marked with the team and individual's name. Gear should be left in the boat in the plastic bag at the boat storage area.
- Participants must carry paddles with them on the run to the Mt. Bike transition area (including spare paddles).
- Canoes and kayaks will be transported from the take out to the Sky Ranch transition area by race officials, where they will be available after the race.
Mountain Bike:
- Helmets will be inspected at race check-in.
- Racers must walk their bikes out of and into transition areas.
- Helmet must be worn.
- Racers must stay on the designated course.
- No hybrids or cyclo-cross bikes.
Rappel/Trek:
- Harness, carabiner, descending device, and helmet must be UIAA or CE approved- equipment will be inspected at race check in.
- Participants must be wearing harness when they leave transition area- race officials will check.
- A race official will monitor each rappel station. Participants' set-up must be checked by the official before beginning rappel (see "Rappel Procedures" for official set-up).
- Helmets must be worn from the beginning of the rappel until participants are out of the canyon.
- The checkpoints must be reached in order. Time penalties will be assessed for non-consecutive or missed checkpoints.
- After the last checkpoint participants are free to find the most expedient route to the finish line.
Mountain Bike:
- Helmets will be inspected at race check-in.
- Racers must walk their bikes out of and into transition areas.
- Helmet must be worn.
- Racers must stay on the designated course.
- No hybrids or cyclo-cross bikes.
