Support Crew
Because The Quest
Adventure Race has many facets that take place in several
locations, the use of a support crew is a necessary component
of the race team. Each racer will need to provide a support
crew to help him or her complete the race. The support crew is
a key element of the race team; therefore, the coordination of
the support crew with the rest of the team can help make for a
smooth and successful racing experience.
Support Crew Rules
- Every soloist and 3-person
team needs to have a support crew.
- Relay teams may utilize
other team members to be their support crew.
- Support crews may only
consist of one or two people, with the exception of the
relay teams.
- Support crew members must
sign the release form.
- Support crews are not to
come in contact with racers except for in the designated
transition areas. Support crews are not to provide
assistance with equipment or mechanical problems except in
transition areas. The only exception would be when a racer’s
health and safety is in jeopardy.
- The roads along The Quest
course are narrow and parking is limited; therefore, there
can only be one vehicle for the support crew, a pickup would
probably work best. Trailers are not allowed.
- Support crews need to have
their identification visible at all times.
Support Crew Responsibilities
- Set up each transition area
for their team prior to their arrival. Canoes/kayaks can be
brought to the transition area after
TBA. and before
the race begins.
- Take down of each transition
area after their team departs. Pick up equipment by the
following times at the following transitions:
- Canoe/Kayak at Transition
2 - TBA
- Mnt. bike at Transition 3
- TBA
*It may be easiest for the
support crew to pick up the gear/equipment immediately after
the team leaves each transition area. Canoes/kayaks and other
gear for this leg may not be available until TBA and
must be picked up by TBA. This is because the race
volunteers will be bringing the canoes and kayaks from the
water exit to the transition area, which may take some time.
- Provide and replenish their
team’s water, sports drink, food, etc.
- Provide minor treatment for
cuts, scrapes, etc. A first aid kit is recommended.
