Next Monday, August 21st, a partial solar eclipse will be visible across the reservation.  The eclipse will start at 9:11 a.m. and will reach its maximum between 10:24 and 10:26 that morning (depending upon where you are on the reservation).  It will be completely over by 11:45 a.m.
At its peak, almost 90% of the sun’s light will be blocked.  That may tempt some people to look directly at the sun.  Please don’t, unless you have the special eclipse glasses.  If you look directly at the sun, even if 90% of the sun’s light is blocked it can cause permanent damage to your eyes.
To look at the interactive map and see the exact times the partial eclipse will be visible from where you will be Monday morning, go to:
If you don’t have the special eclipse glasses but you still want to watch the eclipse as it develops, consider investing ten minutes of your time to make a pinhole camera.    That will project the sun onto a white piece of card stock so you can watch the eclipse in real time.  For directions on how to make a pinhole camera, go to:
Please have a safe viewing experience!
