· Every day, more than 90 Americans die after overdosing on opioids.
· The effects of the opioid epidemic are more intense in rural communities<https://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2017/11/opioids/?platform=hootsuite> where employment opportunities are often limited and isolation is pervasive. Between 1999 and 2015, opioid death rates in rural areas have quadrupled among those 18-to-25-year-olds and tripled for females.
· Anyone who takes prescription opioids can become addicted to them. Families across the county are dealing with the health, emotional, and economic effects of the opioid epidemic.
· The opioid overdose epidemic is a public health emergency and Americans of all races and ages are being killed by opioid overdoses.
We hope you will join us in this unique opportunity to bring together educational, student, and community leaders to develop innovative, out-of-the-box strategies for opioid prevention for our whole community!
