Location: Nespelem, Colville Reservation, WA | Start Date: July 16, 2026

Cause: Lightning | Acres: 138,292 | Containment: 90% | Personnel: 413

Yesterday’s Activities: Firefighters patrolled and monitored sections of the fire, checking for heat, smoke, changes in fire behavior, and ensuring previously contained areas remained secure. Mop‑up occurred in accessible areas southwest of Mill Creek. Interior burning was observed within the fire perimeter due to hot, dry conditions. While smoke columns may be visible, these interior burns do not pose a risk.

Today’s Activities: Patrolling and monitoring within the fire perimeter will continue and firefighters will remain ready to respond to any flare‑ups or new starts. As appropriate, crews are backhauling hose, pumps, and other equipment no longer needed. Critical repair planning will begin to address damage caused by fire suppression activities.

Weather: Warm and dry conditions will continue with temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Winds will remain mostly northeasterly in the morning, shifting to a southwest wind in the afternoon with speeds of 5 - 8 mph and gusts to 16 mph.

The following evacuation areas have changed. The following evacuation orders supersede all previous evacuation notices for the areas listed below.

These areas have been downgraded from Level 1 (NOTIFICATION) and are no longer shown on Perimeter Maps:

·         North Twin Lakes

·         South Twin Lakes

·         Covada

·         Apex

·         Kewa

·         Rogers Bar

·         Wilmont Creek

·         Gold Mountain

·         Stanger Mountain

These areas have been downgraded from Level 2 (BE READY) to Level 1 (NOTIFICATION):

·         Nez Perce Creek

·         Box Canyon

·         Falls Creek

Crews are working in the Nez Perce Creek, Box Canyon, and Falls Creek areas to repair roads and fire lines. Please slow down when passing crews and remain alert.

Yesterday’s Activities: Crews mopped up and performed gridding work, which involves systematically checking the ground in a structured pattern to locate and extinguish remaining heat, along the northwestern, western, and southwestern perimeter edge. Mastication operations were completed along the contingency line in the west.

Today’s Activities: Increasing temperatures and dropping humidity levels will lead to vegetation drying out, which may lead to flare‑ups in unburned areas. Continuing reburn of needles and leaves may also make smoke more noticeable throughout the day. Crews are actively patrolling, gridding, and conducting chipping operations along the southwestern perimeter, while mop‑up work continues in the northern sections. In addition, backhauling of equipment from the contingency line on the western side will begin today.

We want to extend our thanks to the U.S. Army Soldiers from the 7th Infantry Division from Joint Base Lewis McCord who have completed their work on the Modrite Fire. The Soldiers are on a 30-day firefighting mission and have moved to the Little Giant Fire, where they will continue conducting wildfire suppression efforts.

Weather: Temperatures will be in the low-mid 90s. Relative humidity will hover around 20%. A cold front is being tracked and is expected to arrive Friday night into Saturday bringing southwesterly gusty winds around 25 mph. Please be aware that livestock may be present along State Route 155 between Disautel Pass and BIA Route 1133. The fire damaged the fencing, and we are working to repair it.

~ July 24, 2026: The donation drop-off location at Colville Service Center (Old Highway Tire), located at 3041 State Highway 155, Coulee Dam, WA 99116 is now accepting household furniture and appliances for those affected by the Colville Wildfires.

Currently, the most requested items are underwear and socks for both men and women, MUST be new in the package. There is also a continued need for cat and dog food.
